David Karsten Daniels Martha Ann Lyrics

With video performance

Last April, Tucker and I attended a show at the Pix Capri theatre to shoot Questions in Dialect and David Karsten Daniels played after them. I absolutely loved the raw honesty, appeal and arrangments of his performance. Both Tucker and I got cds, his first "I got the CD from the show" CD.

Anyway, he played a song called "Martha Ann" that wasn't on the cd we bought but is the second song and first single from his new album Fear of Flying.

Here are the lyrics to "Martha Ann" I transcribed:

Martha Ann,
I don't know that I can
Understand just what you're goin' through
From where I stand
There is no light
That you and your man are walkin' to
And if the world is out on the brink
of the edge of everything that I have ever known
How could I even start to think
That the whole (hole?) of my life is just for show?

Martha Ann,
How can you fall asleep at night
Don't the end of this a-frighten you?
'Cause in my dreams, all the seams
They come apart and there is only darkness
But in the dark
Where is that spark
The little light that you can put your faith in
I only trust that everything will be all right
A choir of angels' light that you can bathe in
A choir of angels' light that you can bathe in

"Martha Ann" is on David's new CD Fear of Flying and is all self-recorded as are his other albums. You can hear some Southern-isms in his lyrics and a slight accent. As a Southern man, I can dig that a lot.
